Dutch sewing bee

It has been a while since my last post….

because I was a bit a busy bee, a busy sewing bee

and….a busy looking for work bee

Luckily I found myself a nice (temporary) job and it all

developed so very quickly, it was just one week between the I first 

interview and the day I started the job

And it is such a nice job!!  I do love it!

The job is in Amsterdam and my office is at the 7th floor,

so I have the most fabulous view over Amsterdam, pictures about that later.

In the meantime I was sewing

and I do love the result!
More sewing is coming up soon, 
I hope to finish my winter coat this weekend
I know it's a bit late, but not too late, I think

Het is al even geleden sinds mijn laatste post….

drukdrukdruk, druk met naaien én met werk zoeken

ennn….lucky me heeft een (tijdelijke) baan gevonden!

Dankzij een ex-collega, later vriendin en nu ook weer collega.

Zij wilde heel graag dat ik weer samen met haar kwam werken,

omdat we altijd zo gezellig samen thee dronken aan het einde van de dag.

De laatste tijd dronken we té weinig thee samen, 

daar gaat nu gelukkig weer verandering in komen.

Het lijkt me echt een ontzettend leuke baan en ik ben er heel blij mee!

De baan is in Amsterdam en mijn werkplek is op de 7de etage

en ik heb daar echt een geweldig uitzicht! (foto's volgen)

Ondertussen was ik nog aan het naaien

en ben ik blij met het resultaat!
Dit weekend hoop ik eindelijk mijn winterjas
af te krijgen, het is een beetje laat, maar ik denk 
nog niet té laat, denk dat ik hem nog wel 
een poosje kan dragen…..

Cushion and ripple blanket

It's quite a while ago since my last post…..

Busybusybusy!!!! 

But now I have lots to show you for now.

Let's start today with the cushion from my last post,

my daughter sent me a picture which is much better
than the one I posted last time.

Mijn laatste post is alweer een tijdje geleden….

Drukdrukdruk!!!

Maar de komende tijd heb ik van alles om te laten zien.

Om te beginnen het kussen van mijn laatste post,

dochterlief heeft een betere foto gemaakt en opgestuurd.

The black sheep and the white sheep!

The black sheep had her birthday last Saturday,

already three years old now.

And have a look at this adorable picture, 

just about three weeks of age, so sweet!!!!

En kijk die bovenste twee!

Het zwarte schaap en het witte schaap

Het zwarte schaap is afgelopen zaterdag al weer drie jaar geworden

Op de foto hierboven is ze ongeveer drie weken,

zoooo schattig!!!!

In the meantime I was also busy making a blanket

it's the ripple blanket pattern of Lucy from Attic 24. 

She is making such a lovely things!

Her colours always cheer me up.

We do have a very old house and we live quite close to the sea

which means that when it is a bit windy outside, 

it is also windy inside our house. 

We already used a lot of insulating tape, but it didn't worked well

In the evenings when we're sitting on our couch, enjoying 

some tea and watching tele, it is cold and whatever you do,

you won't get warm enough. 

So I decided about the blanket which matches 

the colors of my couch, I think!

Ondertussen ben ik al weer een tijdje bezig met het haken van een

warme deken. Het patroon is van Lucy, van Attic 24.

Zij maakt zulke leuke dingen,

en die kleuren die ze gebruikt, daar word ik altijd zoo vrolijk van!

Wij wonen in een oud huis, wat redelijk dicht bij de zee ligt,

dat betekent dat als er maar een beetje wind staat

het binnen bijna net zo hard waait als buiten.

We hebben al veel isolatietape op allerlei plekken geplakt,

maar dat helpt maar deels….helaas.

Vooral 's avonds als je lekker op de bank gaat zitten

met je kopje thee en tv gaat kijken, krijg ik het vaak koud.

Dus daarom maar aan de haak gegaan en een deken maken,

de kleurtjes heb ik uitgekozen bij de bank, en ik ben er wel blij mee….

Birds

Some time ago, I found this picture on Pinterest

I immediately thought my daughter should love this

So I printed the picture and made a drawing which I could use as a pattern

Een tijdje geleden vond ik dit plaatje op Pinterest

en ik moest direct aan mijn dochter denken, 

die dit soort afbeeldingen altijd mooi vindt

Dus printte ik het plaatje uit en maakte ik er een 

tekening van die ik kon gebruiken als patroon

It took me a while, but heeey than you do have something!

I decided about making a cushion with the pattern,
which can help make her room in Helsinki more cosy
So I bought some fabric for the back of the cushion and 
some embroidering thread and started to stitch
I love to use the Blomstergarn, it is Danish and 
I think it is lovely to work with
And then, after a lot of stitching…….
I run out of embroidering thread, while the pattern wasn't finished yet
So I had to take the train back to Amsterdam to the 
shop where I bought the thread. 
It is always good to find a reason to go and visit Amsterdam
although, most of the time, I can combine it with mywork,
which is in Amsterdam most of the time and go to the shops after work.
So after I've bought some more thread….I could finish the whole thing

Het maken van het patroon kostte wel wat tijd, maar heee dan heb je ook wat!
Ik had inmiddels bedacht dat ik een kussen voor dochterlief wilde maken
om haar kamer in Helsinki wat gezelliger te maken.
Dus stof gekocht voor de achterkant van het kussen en
borduurgaren en kon ik beginnen met borduren.
Ik heb dit met Blomstergarn geborduurd, het is Deens garen
en ik vind het altijd fijn om met deze borduurzijde te werken
Na veel geborduur (zie foto boven) was het borduurgaren op…..
maar het patroon nog niet af
Dus op naar Amsterdam om weer nieuw borduurgaren te kopen
Voor mij is iedere reden om naar Amsterdam te gaan 
direct een heeeele goede reden! 
Meestal combineer ik het toch met werk, 
waarvoor ik sowieso meestal in Amsterdam moet zijn.
Na het borduurgaren gekocht te hebben kon ik weer ijverig verder aan het werk!

Finally finished the birds!
And made a cushion of it
So very sorry I don't have a better picture of it 
the cushion already flew to Finland…..so I can't make a new one
So I will ask my daughter to make a better one
when she will be back there after her Christmas holidays
I was so happy with the cushion!!!
I really do love it
and hope daughter will love it too

Dit keer wel genoeg garen om de vogeltjes af te maken!
Het is zo jammer dat ik geen betere foto heb dan deze
alle andere foto's waren nog veel onscherper
en ik kan helaas geen nieuwe foto maken
want het kussen is al met het vliegtuig naar Finland
Ik zal dochterlief vragen of ze, zodra ze weer terug is 
na haar kerstvakantie hier, om een beter foto voor me te maken.
Ik ben zelf erg blij met het kussen!!!
en hoop dat dochterlief er ook blij mee is
ze zei van wel…..

Het is een beetje laat geworden vandaag....

maar we hadden een zieke hond, waar we de hele dag mee in de weer waren.

Advent

Today Advent-time starts

About two weeks ago I received my first 

Christmas-cards and one of them was

an Advent-card.

I now these calenders, but I've never

seen such a card!

How lovely and nice!

I got this card through the Postcrossing

And last week I got another one!

One from my daughter, because in Finland

there are also such cute cards!

So now!!!!

Lucky me, having two of these cards!

Two times a day I may open a new little window....

Vandaag begint de Advent-tijd!

Twee weken geleden kreeg ik al een paar kerstkaarten,

waaronder deze geweldige Advent-kaart. 

Ik ken wel de Advent-kalenders die ik vroeger voor

mijn kinderen kocht, maar een kaart kende ik nog niet.

Het onderste exemplaar kreeg ik via Postcrossing 

en ik vind het zooo grappig zo'n kaart!

En afgelopen week stuurde mijn dochter

vanuit Finland nog een geweldige 

advent-kaart, het bovenste exemplaar.

Nu kan ik iedere dag twee nieuwe raampjes

open maken, hoe leuk is dat.

Het kind in mij komt weer helemaal boven!

Little bit of Christmas

I do adore the Christmas-season!!

In the Netherlands the Christmas season starts a bit later

than in most parts of the world. The reason is that over here we do 

have the Sinterklaas-celebrations first, these are on the 5th/6th of December.

And although Sinterklaas is more like a children's party,
my family enjoys the party very much.
Because, Sinterklaas is also about making

funny and also a bit critical poems about each other.

Sinterklaas is allowed to be critical and tell somebody about his

curious habits, which you wouldn't dare to tell someone in real life!

Or you can make funny poems about funny things

that happened in someone's life last year.
One year I got a poem from my daughter about
a futuristic gap-knitting-bag that I made.

As a child, I made my, sometimes very grumpy dad,

poems about his very, very grumpy behaviour.

This was allowed, because it was Sinterklaas's poem!

And Sinterklaas is a wise old man, who knows everything,

so he also knows about my dad's grumpiness and.....

you got away with it!!!

 So, what has this story to do with the christmas-season?

 
Well....I'm always starting to decorate my house after the Sinterklaas

celebrations. But this year, I thought, Sinterklaasparty or not

I start right away and bring slowly slowly some Christmas in.

And.....buy myself a Christmas tree!!! YES YES YES!!!

Although it is still in my backyard, I can see it through my kitchenwindow! 

I also started with the decoration of my house.
In the meantime listening to some winter-music,
I think Christmas-music is a little bit too early for now.
So I have these ones!
Kate Bush and Sting, the last one is a mixture from
a little bit of  Christmas- and some wintermusic....

Ik ben dol op Kertmis!
Vooral op al het versiergebeuren wat daar bij hoort.
Ik vind het altijd ontzettend jammer om dat weer op te moeten
ruimen in januari. Dus heb ik dit jaar besloten om eens niet
te wachten totdat het Sinterklaasfeest voorbij is,
maar om gewoon nu al te beginnen met het versieren.
Drie weken geleden heb ik zelfs al een kerstboom gekocht
en ja, hij staat nog in de achtertuin, maarrrrr.... hij is er al wel!
In de keuken ben ik vast begonnen met een soort van winter/kerst
versiering. En stiekem ook al kerstlichtjes gekocht en neergezet.
Voor de kerstmuziek vind ik het nog ietsje te vroeg, maar ik 
heb wel winter-kerstachtige muziek wat ik heel veel
luister, vooral Kate Bush, maar ook Sting. Dit album van Sting is
vooral een vermenging met kerstmuziek, dus langzaam toch 
richting kerstmis!!! Via Postcrossing heb ik
zelfs al een paart kerstkaarten ontvangen! Geweldig!! 

Toch gaan we volgende week ook Sinterklaas vieren,

Skype-sinterklaas! Hoewel mijn kinderen al lang geleden de

Sint-leeftijd gepasseerd zijn, blijft het toch leuk om grappige

gedichten voor elkaar te maken en elkaar een beetje

in de maling te nemen, dat mag, want het is tenslotte Sinterklaas.

Maar na volgende week mag ik helemaal los gaan met het 

Kerstversieren, heerlijk!!!!
